Kohler Construction in Monte Sereno, CA | Milpitas Construction
We provide independent Monte Sereno General Contractor Kohler construction and fixture service across Monte Sereno, from full bathroom remodels built around cast-iron tubs to same-day cartridge swaps on Artifacts and Purist faucets. We’re not affiliated with or authorized by Kohler, and we say that plainly up front. What makes our Kohler work different here is that we’ve spent years in Monte Sereno’s custom homes, where hard Santa Cruz Mountains water and slow hillside permitting change how every fixture gets specified, staged, and installed. Call (877) 752-4194 for a free estimate on any Kohler project in Monte Sereno.
Why Monte Sereno Residents Choose Us for Kohler Service
Most contractors can order a Kohler faucet. Few can tell you why the ceramic cartridge in your Artifacts widespread is seizing after six seasons of Monte Sereno’s hard water, or whether your 1970s cast-iron tub is worth saving before a seismic retrofit starts shifting the framing under it. That’s the difference. We spec materials by name, so you know exactly what’s going into your home, and we carry the OEM cartridges, flush canisters, and trim that keep downtime short on Monte Sereno jobs.
Ken Stafford, our owner, grew up just up the road from the Milpitas BART station back when that corridor was still warehouse lots and family shops, and he’s been working Bay Area residential construction ever since. He got his foundation in construction technology at Evergreen Valley College, where he learned blueprint reading and site management before running his first paying job. That background shows in how we approach Monte Sereno projects: plan the rough-in around the permit window, match existing trim instead of forcing a full replacement, and never tear out tile you don’t have to.
We’re also one of the few general contractors with active access to 50+ brand-name product lines across every major trade, from Kohler plumbing fixtures to Campbell Kohler service, James Hardie siding, GAF roofing, and Cambria countertops. That matters in Monte Sereno, where a bathroom remodel often leads to a window replacement, which leads to a siding question. One contractor, one conversation.
Styles & brands we work with
Common Kohler Construction Problems We Solve in Monte Sereno
- Stiff or dripping ceramic-cartridge faucets. Kohler Artifacts and Purist faucets run on ceramic cartridges that don’t love Monte Sereno’s mineral-heavy water. Over three to six years, calcium builds up inside the cartridge body, handles get stiff, and drips start. We rebuild them with genuine Kohler OEM cartridges and leave the surrounding tile alone.
- Weak or running Ceramic 2.0 toilets. The AquaPiston flush canister inside Kohler’s Ceramic 2.0 toilets gets mineral-caked in hard water, and the result is a weak flush or a toilet that runs between flushes. We replace the canister seal and clean the flush tower with OEM parts, which usually beats replacing a $600 toilet for a $40 problem.
- Seized thermostatic shower valves. Monte Sereno’s dry, hot summers are rough on older Kohler thermostatic mixing valves. The wax element and cartridge stick, and water temperature swings hard. We rebuild these valves in place with OEM cartridges rather than opening the wall.
- Cracked cast-iron tub enamel during seismic work. Cast-iron Kohler tubs, especially Tea-for-Two and Underscore models, sit heavy on framing that predates modern shear standards. When a Monte Sereno home gets a seismic retrofit, that framing shifts just enough to crack enamel at the drain and start a slow subfloor leak. We inspect, repair, or reset tubs before and after retrofit work.
- Leaking trim on vintage Kohler suites. Memoirs and Devonshire suites installed in the 1980s and 1990s hold up well structurally, but the trim washers and O-rings dry out. We replace the worn internals without ripping out the suite, which matters when the tile pattern around it is from a design review-approved remodel.
Kohler Service in Monte Sereno: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s the Monte Sereno-specific part that generic Kohler pages never address. Because Monte Sereno’s tree protection ordinance and hillside grading rules often force arborist reports and geotechnical studies before even a simple addition is permitted, our Kohler bath work here is usually staged around long approval windows. We spec fixtures and rough-in early, then install once grading and framing are finally cleared. On a wooded lot off Highway 9, our crew replaced a scaled Kohler Artifacts widespread faucet cartridge and a seized thermostatic shower valve in a master bath that had been on and off the permit desk for months. We matched the existing Purist trim, rebuilt the valve with OEM parts, and left the tile intact. No full retile needed, no second permit, no lost season. Build it right the first time, the Bay Area doesn’t give you a free pass on shortcuts.
That approval timeline shapes everything: we order Kohler fixtures during the review window so they’re on site when the permit clears, we don’t demo what the city hasn’t approved, and we stage the rough-in so your bathroom isn’t down for the six months the hillside study takes. That’s the kind of local knowledge you only get from working Monte Sereno jobs repeatedly.
Kohler Models & Products We Service in Monte Sereno
We service the full Kohler residential line, including Saratoga Kohler service, that shows up in Monte Sereno’s custom and remodeled homes. That includes Artifacts and Purist faucet collections, Memoirs and Devonshire toilet and bath suites, Cast Iron Tea-for-Two and Underscore soaking tubs, and Ceramic 2.0 toilets with AquaPiston flush. For parts, we use genuine Kohler OEM cartridges, canisters, and trim wherever fit and longevity matter. On discontinued or budget-sensitive pieces, we’ll use quality aftermarket parts and tell you honestly where that makes sense. You get a straight recommendation on whether your Kohler fixture is worth repairing or replacing, and we keep common Monte Sereno Kohler parts in our trucks so we’re not waiting on a distributor when your master bath is down.

AfterKohler Service Pricing in Monte Sereno
Kohler work in Monte Sereno spans a wide range because the homes here run from original 1960s ranches to recent hillside builds. A cartridge replacement is a small job. A full bathroom remodel around a cast-iron tub is not. Here’s what our Kohler-related construction and remodel work typically costs in Monte Sereno:
| Service | Typical Monte Sereno Price Range |
|---|---|
| Bathroom Remodel | $9,000 – $28,000 |
| Walk-In Shower Installation | $4,500 – $12,000 |
| Kitchen Remodel | $14,000 – $45,000 |
| Tub-to-Shower Conversion | $3,500 – $10,000 |
| Bathroom Vanity Installation | $800 – $3,000 |
What drives the cost in Monte Sereno specifically is the slow approval process and the custom nature of the homes. A bathroom remodel on a flat Los Gatos lot moves differently than one on an oak-studded hillside off Highway 9, where drainage and geotech reports add time before a single fixture gets touched. FAQs – Kohler Construction in Monte Sereno
Yes, in nearly every case. The Artifacts cartridge is accessed from above through the handle assembly, so we rebuild the faucet in place and leave your tile, counter, and backsplash untouched. Most cartridge rebuilds take under two hours on site. Call (877) 752-4194 for a quote, and we’ll confirm your exact faucet model before we arrive.
Mineral buildup from Monte Sereno’s hard water cakes the AquaPiston flush canister seal and the flush tower, which chokes the flush and causes weak or running cycles. We clean or replace the canister with a genuine Kohler part, and the flush usually returns to normal without swapping the whole toilet. Call (877) 752-4194 if your Ceramic 2.0 has gotten sluggish, it’s a quick fix we handle regularly in Monte Sereno homes.
Yes, and that’s exactly why you want a contractor who’s worked through the city’s process before. Tree protection and hillside grading rules can add arborist reports and geotechnical studies before a permit clears. We plan the Kohler rough-in and fixture ordering around those windows, so your project doesn’t stall longer than the city already makes it stall. Call (877) 752-4194 and we’ll give you a realistic schedule for your specific lot before you commit.
It can. Cast-iron Kohler tubs are heavy, and when older Monte Sereno framing gets shear-wall upgrades, the slight movement can crack enamel at the drain and start slow subfloor leaks. We inspect tubs before and after seismic work, and if the tub is sound, we reset it properly on the new framing rather than forcing a replacement. Call (877) 752-4194 if a retrofit is in your future and you want the tub checked before work begins.
No, and we’re clear about that. Milpitas Construction is an independent Kohler service provider. We’re not affiliated with or authorized by Kohler. What we are is deeply familiar with their fixtures from years of tear-outs and reinstalls in Monte Sereno homes, and we use genuine Kohler OEM parts where fit and longevity matter. That independence means we recommend what actually works for your home, not what a manufacturer program tells us to push. Call (877) 752-4194 to schedule service.
