Cambria Construction in San Mateo, CA | Milpitas Construction

Milpitas Construction provides independent Cambria countertop fabrication and installation across San Mateo, from the bayfront tracts of 94404 to the older hillside homes west of El Camino, including Belmont Cambria service. We buy Cambria slab stock through the brand’s dealer network and cut, template, and install it ourselves. What makes our Cambria work different here is simple: we know which side of El Camino your house sits on, and that changes how we prep the substrate before a single slab gets templated. Why San Mateo Residents Choose Us for Cambria Service

We’ve set Cambria Ella into 1920s Spanish Revival kitchens near downtown, and we’ve templated Brittanicca Gold islands in 1960s Foster City Cambria service homes out on the bayfill. That range matters. A countertop shop that only ever works on flat, modern slabs won’t catch an out-of-level cabinet run in a 1940s bungalow until the seam opens six months later. Ken Stafford grew up in Milpitas back when the corridor by the BART station was still warehouse lots, and he’s spent over two decades managing residential projects through the Bay Area’s shifting soils. That’s who runs our Cambria work, and it’s why our templates account for floor movement before the slab ever leaves the shop. We’re an independent shop, not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized by Cambria, which means we repair and re-set before we push a replacement.

Common Cambria Construction Problems We Solve in San Mateo

  • Seam failures in older 94401 and 94402 homes. The pre-1950s bungalows and Spanish Revivals near downtown almost never have level cabinet runs. Floors have settled, framing has moved. We see Cambria seams that were cut tight on day one open up after a season of that movement. We re-level the base cabinets before we template, so the joint doesn’t start fighting the house.
  • Chipping at sink cutouts and cooktop edges. When a homeowner reuses an old Cambria top on new cabinetry during a kitchen refresh, the slab gets reset under stress it wasn’t originally cut for. San Mateo’s cabinet refacing projects are common, and chip-outs at the thin edges around sinks are where we get called after someone else’s install.
  • Edge staining and moisture wick in damp, fog-heavy winters. The marine layer off the bay keeps exterior and interior air wet for months. When the caulk line between a Cambria backsplash and counter fails, moisture wicks under the slab edge and stains the exposed profile. This is a repeat problem in San Mateo kitchens that see cooking steam plus ambient coastal damp.
  • Surface dulling from hard-water spotting. Older San Mateo plumbing, especially in bayfront homes with aging shut-offs and galvanized supply lines, leaves mineral deposits. On matte Cambria finishes those spots etch into the surface over time. We’ll restore the finish where possible rather than replacing a slab that’s otherwise sound.
  • Island tops on pier-supported bayfill floors. In 94404 the substrate moves differently than hillside lots. Pier-supported slabs flex, and an island top that’s shimmed wrong will crack a seam within the first year. This is a San Mateo-specific failure mode we plan for from the first site visit.

Cambria Service in San Mateo: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

San Mateo sits on a construction fault line that most people never think about until a project starts. East of El Camino toward the bay, you’re on fill. The 94404 side, particularly the Foster City-era developments, sits on engineered piers driven into old lagoon-edge fill and high groundwater. West of El Camino, you’re on cut-and-fill hillside grading with retaining walls and pre-1950s framing. For Cambria owners that split changes the entire prep sequence. On the bayfill side, a slab top and the cabinetry under it rest on a floor system that moves with groundwater levels and the old fill beneath the piers. We check that the substrate is flat and dry before we template, because a simple counter swap on a pier-supported 94404 floor can fail at the seam if the base cabinets aren’t shimmed to true first. That step doesn’t come up on hillside lots west of El Camino, where the issue is more often out-of-level 1920s framing. On a 1960s Foster City-era tract kitchen in the 94404 bayfront pocket, our crew pulled a dated laminate top and set a Cambria Brittanicca island top and perimeter run. The pier-supported slab floor was out of level, so we shimmed and re-laid the base cabinets before templating to avoid a visible seam gap. We also re-sealed the backsplash-to-counter caulk line, since that bayfront damp was already wicking under the old edge. This is why we don’t treat San Mateo as one flat market. The houses on either side of El Camino need different prep work, and that’s the kind of thing that shows up in quotes you’ll get from us and not from a shop across the bridge.

Cambria Models & Products We Service in San Mateo

We fabricate and install the Cambria lines San Mateo homeowners actually specify. Ella’s warm cream with soft veining is a regular pick in 94401 and 94402 kitchen refreshes, especially on Spanish Revival and Craftsman homes where the look needs to sit comfortably next to plaster walls and original millwork. Brittanicca and Brittanicca Gold dominate the 94404 bayfront tract remodels. Torquay’s scaled-back veining works well in the galley kitchens common to mid-century ranches on the hillsides. For bathroom vanities and island tops we see a lot of Whitehall and Skara Brae. We fabricate from genuine Cambria slab stock sourced through the dealer network, and we use Cambria-approved adhesives and sealers. On hardware, we don’t cut corners: sub-standard aftermarket undermount clips and sink brackets are a common cause of re-work, so we spec proper mounting hardware rather than whatever’s cheapest on a supply shelf. For San Mateo turnaround, we keep the common profile and finishing materials on hand locally so a repair or re-set doesn’t wait on a freight shipment.

Cambria Service Pricing in San Mateo

Here’s what Cambria construction work typically runs in San Mateo. These ranges cover our market, though the final number depends on your slab layout, whether we’re shimming base cabinets first, and how much edge and seam work the project needs.

Service Price Range
Countertop Installation $2,000 – $6,500
Kitchen Island Installation $3,000 – $10,000
Cabinet Installation $4,000 – $13,000
Backsplash Installation $800 – $2,500
Small Kitchen Remodel $9,000 – $20,000

What drives cost here? Substrate prep is the big one. A flat 94404 slab-on-grade is faster than an out-of-level 1920s bungalow floor that needs cabinet shimming before the template works. Seam count and cutout complexity add to it. Your free estimate includes a site check of the existing cabinets and floor, so the quote reflects what’s actually under your top. Call (877) 752-4194 and we’ll walk you through it.
